Since 2021 Morecambe Town Council have employed a team of Town Rangers who are tasked with delivering the Council’s public realm services. Their responsibilities include weed management, pruning of shrubs, clearing alleyways, and other improvements designed to boost the appearance of public spaces and increase civic pride across the town. This work complements and enhances the public realm work of Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council.
Since 2023 Morecambe’s Town Rangers have been contracted to spend 4 months of the year delivering a district-wide weeding service on behalf of Lancashire County Council (which includes Morecambe), the costs of which are covered entirely by the service fee. The remaining 8 months of the year are spent making improvements and providing enhanced services within Morecambe Town Council’s boundaries.
Our Town Rangers regularly patrol the wards within Morecambe and report fly-tipping incidences to Lancaster City Council for clearing. If fly-tipping isn’t reported, it can’t be cleared, and the obstructions can prevent other services (such as bin collections and street cleaning) from being carried out effectively. You can see all of the incidences reported since the end of June 2024 on the map below.
