D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration

June 6 @ 9:00 pm - 9:30 pm

We invite you to join us in a simple act of commemoration, reflecting on the heroism and bravery of all who took part in the 1944 D-Day landings and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This short reflective event will take place from 9pm on 6 June 2024 outside Morecambe Town Hall. A specially-designed D-Day 80 beacon will be lit at 9.15pm, in conjunction with hundreds of others in cities, towns, and villages across the country, symbolically celebrating the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of war.

The beacon-lighting will be bookended by nostalgic war-time songs performed by Morecambe-based singer Leigh Rhianon Coggins.

Limited seating will be available for the elderly and disabled at this otherwise standing event. Arrival at 8.45pm is recommended for 9pm start.

Earlier in the day, the Town Crier will deliver the official D-Day 80 Proclamation on the steps of Morecambe Town Hall at 8am, and again by the Clocktower on the Promenade at around 8.45am.
